Mission Statement
CHFI is committed to helping to achieve the Millennium Development Goals of poverty and hunger reduction in Africa and Asia mainly through Sustainable Modernization of Agriculture and Rural Transformation (SMART) that is guided by rural community mobilization and empowerment, diligence, self-help and cooperation. CHFI, thus, offers the rural poor and most underprivileged opportunities to help themselves, build self confidence and self-reliance, and work their way out of profound deprivation and hopelessness.
Objectives
CHFI’s main objective is to help achieve substantial reduction of poverty and food insecurity in Africa and Asia.
Specifically, CHFI takes integrated actions in support of the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) of AU/NEPAD. These actions are rural community or village – specific and are directed at the sustainable modernization of agriculture and rural transformation with emphasis on:
- agricultural productivity
- food and nutrition
- health of rural community members and particularly maternal health
- stewardship of agricultural natural resource base
- small-scale agro-industry
- marketing and support services
- road infrastructure
- rural energy
- water and sanitation
- education and training
- technology
